Our Free Resources Series: The Basic Media Kit
We share these free notes and demystify the process of self-promotion. For early-career artists, creative or even a content creator, a media kit can feel daunting. This free resource is an invitation into our community and methodology, hoping we can help creatives to articulate their unique story and unlock new opportunities. We hope creators succeeds and thus we share these foundational notes openly to empower emerging artists, creatives and content creators with the tools to advocate for their work. While our workshop has a more detailed notes and guides, by democratizing access to basic free content, we are hoping for a more diverse ecosystem for everyone.
Free Resource Series: The Basic Media Kit Series:
- This kit will include three resources, one for each of your key components.
Resource 1: The "Find Your Angle" Photography Prompt Card
- The Goal: To help someone take interesting and authentic profile photo without needing professional equipment.

3 Creative Shots to Try Today
- Forget the forced smile. Your profile picture should tell a story.
- You do not need a studio—just your phone and a little creativity.
1. The Mysterious Shot
- Concept: Hint at who you are, do not just show it. Creates intrigue and focuses on mood. How to Do It: Silhouette: Stand in front of a bright window during the day. Tap on your phone to focus on the bright area, making yourself a dark outline. At Work: Focus on your hands typing, painting, holding a tool, or making coffee.
2. The Lifestyle Shot
- Concept: Connect your personality to your profession. Shows what makes you unique beyond your job title. How to Do It: In Your Workspace: Capture a candid moment at your desk, in your workshop, or in your kitchen. With a Hobby: Include your running shoes, a musical instrument, or a favorite plant. With Your Pet: (If appropriate) A genuine moment with a pet can be incredibly welcoming.
3. The Detail Shot
- Concept: Let your work speak for itself. Ideal for artists, makers, and creators. How to Do It: Highlight a Product: Beautifully frame a piece of jewelry you made, a dish you cooked, or a page from your notebook. Focus on a Tool: A close-up of your paintbrush, your camera lens, or your coding keyboard. Pro Phone Tip: Clean your lens. Use natural light whenever possible.
Resource 2:
The "Bio Skeleton" Worksheet
- Goal: To demystify bio-writing by breaking it down into a simple, repeatable formula. Craft Your Core Bio: The Fill-in-the-Blanks Formula. Your bio is your digital handshake. Use this skeleton to build one powerful core bio that you can adapt anywhere.
Step 1: Who are you?
- Your Title: I am a [your role] E.g. Graphic Designer, Data Scientist, Sustainable Lifestyle Coach.
Step 2: Who do you help?
- Your Audience: Who helps [Your Ideal Client/Audience, E.g, small business owners, busy parents, tech start ups...etc]
Step 3: What problem do you solve?
- Your Value: To [The result you create, eg. memorable brands], simplify their financial data, build healthy habits.
Step 4: What makes you different?
- Your Secret Sauce: My unique approach is [Your differentiator. E.g. focused on minimalist design, using plain English explanations, combing ancient wisdom with modern science.
Step 5: What should they do next?
- Your Call-to-Action: Ready to the next step, eg. check out the portfolio, blog, or even send me a DM.
Now, combine your answers into your Core Bio:
I am a [role] who helps [audience] to [result]. My unique approach is [your selling point], [ready for the next step.]
Platform Challenge:
- For LinkedIn: Add more formal keywords and your current company.
- For Instagram: Shorten it, add an emoji or two, and make the CTA "Follow for tips on..."
- For Twitter/X: Make it even punchier. Maybe just the first sentence and a link.

Format: A short guide with a structured list.
Goal: To help people overcome the fear of creating a media kit by guiding them to list their accomplishments.
Your Media Kit Starts Here:
- The Brag Sheet Brainstorm
- You do not need a fancy design yet. First, you need the content. This list will help you gather all the bits and pieces that prove your value.
Answer these questions to build your "Brag Sheet":
About You & Your Story:
- What is your mission in one sentence?
- What are your core values?
- E.g., authenticity, sustainability, innovation?
- What is a unique personal fact that connects to your work?
My Audience
- Who you bring to the table:
- Who are they?
- E.g., "Women aged 25-40 interested in wellness"
- Key Stats (if you have them): Follower count, average website visitors, newsletter subscribers.
- What is a key insight you have about your audience?
My Accomplishments & Past Work:
- Brands You have Worked With: List any past collaborations, big or small.
- Features & Press: Have you been mentioned in a blog, podcast, or local news? List it.
- Testimonials: What have clients or collaborators said about you? Quote them.
- Key Content: List 3-5 pieces of content you are most proud of (blog posts, videos, projects).
What You Offer:
- What are your main services?
- E.g., Instagram Takeovers, Product Reviews, Blog Sponsorships.
- What are your rates or a starting point for inquiries?
- Be prepared to negotiate.
